Among colorful canvases, landscapes painted en plein air, scenes of daily life from the Belle Époque, and luminous and vibrant atmospheres, the guided tour of De Nittis's exhibition will trace the fortunate artistic trajectory of Giuseppe de Nittis, starting from his native Barletta to reaching the great peaks of international painting. We will investigate De Nittis's connections with the Italian Macchiaioli painters and the influences of the Impressionists in Paris, to understand how a well-made synthesis of different inspirations, reworked in a personal key, can lead to creative originality capable of vividly portraying the historical, artistic, and cultural changes of an entire era.

The guided tour of De Nittis's exhibition is an extraordinary immersion into the colorful and luminous atmospheres of one of the greatest Italian painters of the nineteenth century, whose fame soon crossed national borders to make him one of the most appreciated artists by contemporary and subsequent international collectors. Resistant to academic customs, De Nittis managed to combine the inspirations of the Macchiaioli he met in Florence with the innovations of the Parisian Impressionists. He drew inspiration from the literary world and the English artistic panorama, creating an identity and original style that became the interpreter of dreams and melancholies of the Belle Époque.
