As of 2022, the Royal Palace of Milan has officially joined the Association des Résidences Royales Européennes (ARRE), an association founded in 2001 that brings together thirty royal residences circa in the European Union. These places are of considerable historical importance and, with their impressive architecture, remain as a testimony of the ruling dynastic courts in Europe, now playing the new role of institutional headquarters open as a whole, or in part, for the public enjoyment.

The presence of the Royal Palace in the network allows the sharing of enhancement objectives, from projects related to the promotion of their historical identity to planned conservation and restoration activities with the most prestigious European institutions such as the Châuteau de Versailles, Schloss Schönbrunn, the Royal Palace of Caserta or the castles of Bavaria and Poland.

ARRE's goals are to promote the knowledge of the European cultural heritage, carry out joint cultural projects, and share the obtained knowledge and good practices. Members of the association and their employees attend international conferences and workshops to discuss issues related to exhibition organization, conservation of venues and artworks, and the introduction and implementation of new technologies.

Membership in the association is an action within the project of enhancing and promoting the Royal Palace, which also saw the establishment in 2022 of the Scientific Committee for the recovery and relocation of the historical furnishings within the Royal Palace of Milan.

The members of the Scientific Committee were identified from scholars internationally renowned in the field of art, and in particular experts from civic and state collections, from representatives of public institutions - Superintendency, Stibbert Museum in Florence - as well as from managers and functionaries of the Culture Department of the City of Milan.
